Beware of Bogus Bray DVDs

Everyone wants to be a winner. Now, highly respected multiple champions Alan and Jayne Bray reveal their secrets of success on this training course comprising two DVDs and accompanying guidebook.

Whether you are a novice or more experienced handler, Alans clear, easy to follow commentary and explanations will guide you each step of the way, with a range of example exercises; and they are not all textbook examples either. Alan & Jayne are not afraid to let you see things going wrong and what steps they take to put things right.

All the handling skills required are demonstrated live within each exercise, including running, talking, commands, tone of voice, arm movements, body language and course positioning are all covered in real situations.

Speed training is built-in from the very beginning; right from the important, but often neglected aspect of puppy play and motivation. Fun and enjoyment for both dog and handler are emphasised throughout.

This double DVD and 20 page guidebook course covers:

<UL>
<LI>Play preparation and motivation away from the equipment
<LI>Puppy/new dog foundation and basics which are also useful reminders for the more experienced dog</LI>
<LI>Tunnels</LI>
<LI>Weaves</LI>
<LI>Dog Walk, A-Frame & Seesaw</LI>
<LI>Various jumping and handling combinations including Send Aways, Boxes, Flick Flacks, Fan of Jumps and Pull Throughs</LI>
<LI>Full courses including walking the course and running.</LI>
</UL>

Running time: 3 hours

The DVD is all-region formatted and therefore will play most places in the world. Unfortunately it''s in the nature of the beast that there could be the odd DVD player here and there (including in the UK) that will not play it,Jayne and Alan Bray  have been advised that someone, possibly based in Northern Ireland, has dubbed copies of their double DVD Train Your Dog to Win and is offering them for sale on eBay - all totally illegally, of course. Apparently the quality is appalling quality and it doesn't include the training book. People won't get their money back and won't be able to see anything either.

To order the legit Double DVD which includes the training book please go to Agility Warehouse. http://www.agilitywarehouse.com/product_detail.cfm?id=1752 It's the real thing!

CSJ Mad March Offer

Choose a free 200g pot of herbs from CSJ’s comprehensive range when you buy two bags of Command Performance food during the month of March and save on postage, too.

From Go On! the natural ‘competition mix’ for active dogs to Get Over! for the nutritional maintenance of the musculo-skeletal system, there’s a product to help most dogs – and it’s totally natural.

The herbs, which come in 200g re-sealable tubs and have a shelf life of 12 months have made a difference to innumerable dogs, with problems ranging from arthritis to leaky bladders or fleas, and now you can try them for free.

Torn cartilage, sprained ligaments and tendons are a curse of all very active dogs, causing discomfort and time out from training and competition, but CSJ say they find their combination of the plant extract Glucosamine Sulphate, and Chondroitin - used from its best source... shark cartilage - in Command Performance helps to cushion joints, repair injuries and aid shock absorbency.

This  is a limited offer and will apply to one purchase per customer and will run until the end of March 2007.

So Go On! don’t be a Stroppy Bitch! or a Billy No Mates! join the winning team. You can order from Agility Warehouse or go to the CSJ web site.  For more information, contact Ann Harmes on tel. 01824-780522 or email ann@csjk9.com.

Trover & Animal Friends Insurance Present First ‘Ladies That Rescue’ Award at Crufts

Trover ® Enterprises Ltd and Animal Friends Insurance are delighted to be presenting their first ‘Ladies That Rescue’ award at Crufts to Val Philips of  Valgrays Border Collie Rescue. Animal Friends Insurance Founder  MD, Elaine Fairfax and Agility and Obedience expert Donelda Guy will present the £500.00 prize to the winner. Val will be accompanied by Red, one of her rescue dogs who will be proudly wearing his bespoke Trover® Coat in style. The runner up, Jacquie Neilson of Rain Rescue, will receive a Bootsuit, presented by Tim Valentine, MD of Bootsuit.

Celebrating and recognising the positive work achieved by women in rescue, this Award was conceived in response to staggering figures that reveal that 101, 586 stray dogs were found in the UK last year and that  7, 743 dogs were destroyed for want of a home. Trover ® and Animal Friends Insurance are keen to acknowledge the valuable rescue work achieved by women volunteers without whom these figures would be higher.

Inundated with entries all of which were extremely worthy, it is the aim to make this an annual competition, which will heighten awareness for women in rescue and the on-going recognition that they deserve.

The presentation will take place on Trover® Coat’s UK distributor’s stand Country Mun, Stand no: 142 - Hall 2 , on Friday, 9 March at 2.15 pm.

Elaine Fairfax commented. 'It’s been a pleasure to collaborate with Jane Aireton and Toni Cherrett of Trover®. Together we hope to make others aware that literally hundreds of women, often single handed, contribute to helping animals in need, through their generosity of spirit and genuine love of creatures who don’t have a voice.'

Jane Aireton of Trover ® Enterprises Ltd added, 'We have been deeply moved by the women who have entered the ‘Ladies That Rescue’ competition. Their heartbreaking stories, which tell of 150% commitment, compassion and care for animals, whilst fighting for funds and working against incredible odds, are inspiring and deserve to be told.'

New exclusive Trover™ dual purpose wonder bed. The go anywhere bed that dries your pet. Cage, car, boat, caravan, tent, office, the Trover™ bed offers the perfect travelling answer.

(Reg. Des.UK 3024435)
We’re delighted to be staging the ‘Ladies That Rescue’ award on our stand. It is important to support and contribute positively to the canine world. Trover’s  approach is refreshing and we’re only too pleased to help raise awareness of the valuable rescue work both Val Philips and Jacquie Neilson have achieved,' enthused Country Mun’s MD, Irvin Werrett.

The new improved Trover Wonder Bed (left) will be shortly available, now in two sizes. It's a real animal magnet to both cats and dogs alike.

Very Sad News from Storm & Max

Out of the blue last October, Sue Sleath from Storm & Max's Place was diagnosed with terminal cancer and, as a result, has limited life expectancy. The critical period is fast approaching. Being a family business, Storm & Max's Place has decided to cut down production of their popular agility equipment so the family can spend more time with Sue and see her through the difficult weeks ahead.

Storm & Max's Place will, however, return to full production later in the year. Graham Sleath would apologise to their customers for this reduction in their service but trust you will understand their difficulties.

New Canine Cards Dogs Announced

Tizzy and CopperAfter much deliberation, Canine Cards has chosen two new dogs to join its Canine Card family - Tizzy and Copper, owned by Hazel Higgins and David Bew of First Contact Agility.  In summer 2006, Colette Turner, owner of Canine Cards, advertised on the Desperately Seeking... page of Agilitynet for a third dog to join the Canine Cards as she was aiming to produce a new range of agility and flyball e-cards. She was amazed by the response. Colette admits that she was inundated with volunteers - brilliant dogs and great owners! Click here to read Tizzy and Copper’s story.

The aim of Canine Cards is to produce e-cards of dogs with movement as realistic as possible so the team start the process by filming the dogs and this then forms the basis for the animation.  Filming with Tizzy and Copper took place at the end of January. You can see a short compilation of the film taken by clicking the link here

The Canine Cards team have started planning the new agility and flyball cards and work on the animation – probably showing Copper weaving - will start over the next few weeks.  They will then follow that card with a flyball animation.  So log onto Canine Cards and keep an eye out for the new cards!

GenCon Disclaimer

One Size fits all - complete with its own lead.

Do you get frustrated and annoyed when you are walking your dog and your arm is aching? Maybe your dog will walk on a slack lead, or even off the lead in a class or even an Agility show, but will still pull you when out of the ring and out for a walk.

Will NOT pull up into your dogs eyes. They consist of two loops, one over the nose, the other containing the lead or ring(s) round the neck. When the dog pulls they both tighten and restrict the whole head and the Dog backs off from the restriction, in other words stops pulling. The action is from the side of the head and very gentle, it does not pull the dogs head round.

Only gentle pressure is needed to control the dog. Do not jerk! Please be aware of illegal copies of the Gencon. If it doesn’t have Gencon on the label, then it is not the genuine, gentle patented Gencon!

It has been drawn to our attention that there are a number of illegal and inferior imitations of Gencons on the market. One in particular uses a metal ring to form the two loops under the dogs chin. When this headcollar is correctly positioned, this metal ring constricts the dogs throat.

Gencon does not manufacture nor endorse this product. Gencon will not be held in any way responsible for any damage sustained by your dog in the use of these imitations.

Canine Cards Spam Problem

For some reason, MSN and Hotmail sometimes identify Canine Cards as 'junk mail.' The MSN/Hotmail server receives the card but when they deliver the card they put it into the receivers junk mail folder.

So if you have sent a card to someone with a Hotmail or MSN account - or are planning to - then you may want to tell them to check their junk mail folder. If they then tick the box to allow Canine Cards in the future, then any futher cards you send will go direct to their inbox.

The MSN message says 'Tell the Junk E-Mail Filter which messages you'd prefer to have delivered to your Inbox by using the checkboxes and then clicking the 'Not Junk' button". This is a common problem and not something associated with this site specifically.

The Jumping Jazz Card
Jazz is just starting agility training and sometimes gets it wrong but – gets there in the end!!

Colette I wanted to let you know becasue I could see that a few of the cards sent over the past few days have Hotmail or MSN addresses.  We are doing all we can to try and solve the issue by doing "technical things" (which I don't understand) and by contacting the Microsoft filter support team.

If you have any queries then please get in touch.

Tuggy Leads at Hinckley, Cartmel, Tweedbank &  Scunthorpe

Just a request for anyone wanting to buy Tug-Tastic tuggy leads at any one of these shows. Although we will have a stall with most colours available, if anyone has very specific colour requirements could you please email Lisa Adamson beforehand to give her chance to get these colours made up in advance. Otherwise she and Jackie SMith seem to spend most of the show plaiting rather then enjoying the show.

They can make them up and have them available for your payment and collection at the show. Any leads not collected will simply go back into stock.

Also available in boy colours, girl colours, bright colours and dark colours online from Agility Warehouse

This Spring sees LessBounce continue to support women in their physical pursuits! Their Real Support for Real Women campaign aims to replace all the models on our website and in our current catalogue with LessBounce customers, staff and UK female athletes.

Selaine continued, 'We really do want women from all walks of life, all shapes and sizes to take part in this (and don’t worry if you’re not a real sporty type, we know our bras are used for gardening, bell ringing, dog walking etc), so if you are interested, please send details of which bra you like and which sports or activities you take part in with your bra to me at selaine@lessbounce.com'

Storm & Max's Makes Charitable Move

The owners of Storm & Max's Place have been saying for sometime that the demand for their agility products is outstripping their ability to produce the products and that they would have to find additional capacity to make their popular equipment. So now much of their equipment is now being made by The Pelican Trust, a charitable trust organisation in a factory which supports disadvantaged individuals to develop work skills and equips them to return to the job market or indeed achieve their first job.

Sue Sleath says ' We are delighted to be working with The Pelican Trust. We are very proud of our agility equipment and we are now also very pleased that in producing our products we are also helping individuals to develop employable skills and eventually return to work.'

Sue continues ' To make this happen we have had to slightly increase the price of some of our equipment but our customers will be not only getting our usual quality products but also contributing to a very worthwhile social cause, helping disadvantaged people back to work. We hope any of our customers will share our view.'

The Red Coats Are Coming... the Red Coats Are Coming

A while ago, this email request landed in Trover® Dog coats’ in tray, telling a horrific story.

(In) Tylertown, Louisianna (USA) LASPCA dogs are cold. These animals are outside and are so thin that they feel the cold even more so. A donation of 50 dog sweaters in size medium would be greatly appreciated.

Hurricane Katrina had left hundreds of dogs so traumatised that they could not be rehomed and, as winter has descended on The States, they were now cold, thin and suffering through no fault of their own. A handful of humans were tackling a nightmare situation.

This was a challenge, Trover® Dog coats, based in Alderney, was not prepared to ignore. Whilst Toni, the award winning designer of the Trover® Dog coat, set to and fashioned the Katrina Coat which could be made from old duvets and sleeping bags, Jane contacted Jeff at the Humane Society of Louisiana (HSL) to find out exactly what was needed. DHL with  immediate and amazing generosity  offered to sponsor the freight costs making the whole operation feasible. The first shipment of apple green coats went out on Monday, 28 November.

The legendary generosity of the Channel Islanders will make this a wonderful success story. The Americans cannot believe how far Trover® Dog Coats, with the invaluable assistance  of DHL, have moved in just four days. The response from HSL was immediate.

'The coats have arrived - similar to the historical refrain, 'the red coats are coming! - which is what the Americans Colonialists supposedly said when the British were seen coming to town. That is what we were taught in grade school. Anyway, we prefer your coats! They are simply fabulous! They are so well made and designed! Most of others we have received were made in China and have already been chewed and spit out by the dogs. I hope you don't mind if I send nine of the coats to Canada as some of our dogs have been transported there.  This is a perfect gift for animals which have suffered so much! A thousand thank yous!

Trover® Dog coats need more sleeping bags, duvets (not blankets) dark coloured duvet covers or sheets and webbing tape to make more of these wonderful coats. Please send them to Trover Dog Coats, Alderney Channel Islands

Ambassador Textiles in the UK has already generously donated a roll of fleece; we are hoping other companies will follow their  example and come forward to help us with quilted material and tape. We also  hope that bigger pet accessory companies, better equipped than ourselves, will respond.

If you wish to send a donation to these suffering animals, you can pay direct online http://www.humanela.org/contact.htm. If you wish to support us in purchasing materials send a cheque to the Trovercoats Katrina Fund , Trover® Dog coats, Alderney , Channel Islands GY9 3TZ

Thank Fish for British Win in Europe!

Andy Brown has told CSJ that he’s convinced their new Crispy Fish Skins helped his dog Skye to win the Individual title at the prestigious Belgian Shepherd Dog Agility World Championships in Eastern Germany recently.

The story began when Andy was given a sample of the 100% fish, highly palatable treats - which can also be used dry or soaked as a food supplement - at an agility event in the UK and then went back for more after his dog went out and did its fastest run!

CSJ supplier Ann Harmes then had a desperate call for more to take to the World Championships. Upon his return, a thrilled Andy rang to say that he had won the Individual event and was ‘over the moon’ with our high nutrition, low fat Crispy Fish Skins.

Andy and Skye were also part of the winning combination who took the Team competition, so completing a superb double for the UK against extremely stiff opposition.

Dog Coat Designer Leads Innovators' Cat Walk

Creator of the revolutionary new Trover ™ Dog Coat has gained one of the coveted top ten British Female Inventor/Innovator of the Year Awards 2005

Toni Cherrett, from the tiny rocky Channel Island of Alderney, is set to transform canine clothing with a dog coat design that dispenses with the difficulties of traditional protective wear and recognises that dogs, just like their owners, are happier when dressed in clothes that are comfortable, well-fitting and above all created to meet their needs.

The Trover™ Dog Coat with patent pending incorporates a three-point anchoring system with soft thigh cuffs around the hind legs. It does away with traditional fastenings to completely overcome common problems associated with old-style coats, and has proven so successful that its originality in design and application  have placed  Toni Cherrett among the top ten  British Female Inventors/Innovators of  2005. The GWIIN award was announced  on 17 February at a ceremony in the Old Royal Naval College, Maritime, Greenwich.

Today’s dogs are regarded as more family member and less pet than ever before. As a result they are generally healthier; they’re living longer; and they’re becoming more accustomed to their creature comforts as dog kennels make way for centrally-heated living rooms.  Like us, they’re used to being pampered – and so less well equipped to cope outdoors. They need good quality coats to help protect them when they’re outside.  Until the arrival of Toni Cherrett’s Trover™ coat, dog apparel had failed to keep pace with the needs of the modern breed of canine.

Typical problems with traditional coats include restricted heart and lung function caused by underbelly straps (which can also chafe), the coat slipping or entangling dogs dangerously in the undergrowth – and, most commonly, the coat being blown about in bad weather, just when the dog (and its owner) needs the protection most.

The Trover™ Dog Coat fits easily with no fuss or trouble. Toni Cherrett’s design has already been adapted to suit a number of applications across Europe and the United States (where it has been granted a US Design Patent) – from helping aged pooches with aching joints to being sported by the GB World Agility Dog Team in Italy last September.  Indeed, dogs enjoy wearing them so much that they often boast two or three Trover™ Coat styles in their wardrobe.

The Trover™ Dog Coat is currently available mail-order from www.trovercoats.com and will soon be introduced to retail outlets throughout the UK. It can be purchased in a wide variety of standard sizes, with a choice of colours and fabrics to suit the chosen styles. Prices (inclusive of VAT, post and packing) start at £32.08 for a medium Trover™ Agility Warm-up Coat.
