Four Legged Friends Rescue Kennels, Lincoln would like to thank:
  • The show organisers for allowing us to run the raffle at their show, to raise funds for the kennels,
  • All the people who helped us provide prizes by pestering businesses and organisations, as well as the individuals/ groups who gave or bought prizes for us so generously.
  • The team of expert muggers who stood all day on Friday at the entrance gate, intimidating all arriving campers into parting with some money for tickets.
  • The pair of younger, but just as expert, muggers (no names mentioned) who then went round the show continuously persuading people that they needed even more tickets.
  • but most of all YOU - the ticket buyers. You were so generous. We raised ( or rather you gave) £550 – well above our wildest dreams. This means we can now build more runs, thus giving additional safe places to even more rescue dogs who will now have a future life to look forward to, hopefully in new loving homes.

Also fellow Swatter Sam Kable with Dalmation Billy, winning Grade 1 and not realising it until hearing her name called out in first! Guess it really was worth getting out of bed and getting down there. Don't be fooled by the spotty one. He's a class act.

And Lesley with Kif for pulling off a 2nd in the G1-3 Steeplechase. Not bad for a dog that needed 'special help' with ring shyness and that, at the beginning of the season, looked uncertain to end it even getting a clear round. Lots of hard work there. Thanks to all our friends at SWAT who encouraged him without overfacing him (humans) and cheered him on (canines). Thanks guys. He looks amazing now.   - Gail    (22 September 2008)

I would like to thank all Burnham organisers for a fantastic show - great venue, relaxing atmosphere and brilliant weather (okay, you can't arrange that) but my partner Angus and I and all the Suffolk Five Rivers members who were there had a fun weekend. My dog Sasha would also like to thank the farmer for laying on the lovely cow pats in the exercise ring. She found one and had a fab time rolling in it. She did look pleased with herself until I had to wash her under the tap, so even that didn't spoil our weekend. I hope to attend next year.   - Trudie & hounds x    (20 September 2008)

Not content with that, also coming 2nd in the weave pole challenge on Sunday with Kane, having the fastest qualifying times. Go the Belgians!   - Grace & little Kiah    (15 September 2008)
Can I take this opportunity of thanking Sally Wynes and everybody else we knew at Phoenix Agility near Westbury for all the friendship and guidance they gave my daughter Louise and I over the years and helped train our two grey Belgian Shepherd Dogs Millie and Timber into Amateur Agility Stars (and incidentally film stars) who with their help managed to win a fair few rosettes over the years at various KC registered events.

Sadly in my job I have had to move on and we now reside in Gloucester, so if there is anybody out there that knows of a suitable agility club in and around Gloucester that could keep these two Belgians on their toes, please contact me through the following e-mail address rigid_raider@blueyonder.co.uk.   - Steve Wood    (15 September 2008)

Belated, but big congratulations to Hannah Lyon and Henry (Henry Noble Rock) - or more commonly known on the circuit as the gangly spaniel with the 'Hairdo!' for winning into Grade 3. I have just got in from visiting Keith Powell so thought I would update everyone. When I saw him today he was quite tired and content to just sit holding hands and listening to me babbling on, with the odd comment from him. He can often drop off, then wake up looking quite bewilderd. Reports from family and friends who have been visiting the last few days have been very positive indeed. He was moved a few days ago to a general stroke ward (f14) which is great. His bleed hasn't shown any signs of itself at all today, not even a trace, so the doctors hope that that is all cleared up. He is back on the special hospital sludge food - and is allowed to eat proper dinners too if he likes.

He has been very chatty to visitors the last few days, and very alert and communicative, and it is now quite possible to understand at least some of what he says! Long sentances are tricky for him as he gets tired or forgets what the words are, but short simple statments are often clear! He can get very frustrated, more with himself than the listener, but takes it with good humor! He can sometimes say things which are clear, but have no apparent connection with what is going on which can be disconcerting, but is quite normal and again is progress with the talking which he couldn't do at all before. When he is tired he talks a lot less, as it only takes about 10 mins of talking for him to get worn out, and the words get a lot less clear and more jumbled, but again is very normal, and is a good sign, especially as when he is rested he is quite clear and coherent. He is starting his physio, which is also good, and can sit out in a special chair for short periods. My dad visited him over the weekend, and got him to have a go at writing, which he did, but with his left hand its tricky for him. My dad was also encouraging him to try moving his right side, and amazingly got him wriggling the big toe on his right foot! He also has some sensation in his right hand which is all fantastic news! Generally it seems that he is moving in the right direction and is doing very well.   - Abby x    (11 September 2008)

For friends of Keith Powell, I have some bad news. He seems to have taken a turn for the worse. He has some internal bleeding, The doctors are quite concerned. He was rushed to surgery and it is all quite touch and go. The surgery didn't go ahead as the bleed stopped on its own, but it is still unknown what caused it and so it is possible it may come back. He is now in a high dependency unit where he is being monitored, but is currently stable. He has woken up a little and seems to know who my family are etc, but it is a set back in his progress, and physically he is still on very rocky ground. As the doctors don't know more there isn't much more I can tell you, but I will keep you updated with any new changes. I also need to pass on a request from the nurses that people don't phone the hospital to ask about Keith, as they cannot give out any information - and I suspect have been a bit inundated with calls from his many friends! I will try and keep everyone updated as best I can. regards, .   - Abby    (01 September 2008)
