Timing failure - re-runs

Total votes:        361
Dates:        13-17 April 2006
Question:

When a handler completes a run at a show, but needs to run again - e.g. if the timing fails or a 'loose dog' interferes with the run - how do YOU think the judge should deal with this? What is fairest - not just for this handler, but bearing in mind everyone running in the class?

Answers:
52% - 188 votes          Re-run for time only - existing score stands
38% - 140 votes          Complete re-run - new time and new score replace the original score
9% - 33 votes          Other (see below)

  • If another dog hampered you then a complete re-run would be fairest, if timing failed, keep score and run for time. (Several other similar comments)

  • If original score clear - a clear round rosette and a complete re-run for place.

  • Complete re-run but only if original round clear

  • Time only re-run could mean course was run differently 2nd time; Re-run, but contacts and weaves will be marked; Depends on individual cases, but if re-run for time, blatant disregard for contact should be faulted. (Several other similar comments)

  • Same score up until point interference came...then judging restarts from that point or in timing keep score but just for time. In elimination has choice to re-run or not bother (in timing case)

  • Re-run for time only but the person must make the effort to run the course properly

  • If clear re-run for time. If faulted (no interference) re-run for time. If interference re-run for both.

  • Run the dog as a complete re-run at END of class OR at least one hour after incident. This then gives dog and handler a break, and is fairer to the all the competitors.

  • The loose dog and handler should be disqualified for the rest of that show.

  • I would say if complete re-run offered then the option of letting the clear round stand without time should be offered.

  • Depends if agility or jumping really. Does make difference.

  • Agility is FUN and I think this is getting far too serious. If the electronic timer fails just accept the humble stop watch.

  • At judge's discretion, as it depends on circumstances. That's why we have a judge!
