So long it's been good to know you...

Good bye and good luck from all of us. It won't be the same without you. Most agility people won't get a mention in a posh newspaper or a golden handshake from the board of directors, so Agilitynet is here to be the place for you to say all those fond farewells.

A Fond Farewell to Lynne and John Ward

At the final CATS show, it was time to bid Lynne and John Ward a fond farewell, ahead of their retirement from their positions as Secretary and Chairman of the club at the end of the year.

Lynne and John have been members of CATS for nearly 20 years and have contributed so much to the club both in time and expertise, that without them - and a little help from their friends - the club would not have done or achieved many of the accolades that it has done to date. So as a token of our appreciation for all that they have done and achieved for the club, we felt it was right to present them with their gift at our final show.

They are pictured here with their gift, of a portrait of all six of their dogs, which was painted and presented to them in person by Karl Pitwon.

We wish them all the very best in their future endeavours and may we also take this opportunity to thank Karl Pitwon, for not only getting the painting finished in a very short space of time, but also for taking the time out of his very busy schedule to come and present the portrait to them in person.

A big thank you to Lynne and John from all of us at CATS

Jean West, Founder of Bretons DTC

On Sunday 28th July 2002 Bretons Dog Training Club, wished a ‘happy retirement to the person who founded the club in 1979, Jean West. Jean started the club with her friend Brenda Rae, to provide opportunities for dog owners to have fun with their dogs.

Agility life was very different back then.  It was a fairly new up and coming sport and there were few opportunities in agility.  The club soon became very popular both for its ‘dog control classes’ and differing levels of agility classes. It is no secret that most of the agility equipment was made by Jean and Brenda’s husbands, and transported each week by Jean and Brenda to Bretons sports and recreation ground for training sessions.  At the end of the sessions both Jean and Brenda would pack the equipment back into their cars to store in their homes.

Jean was so proud when the club became registered with the Kennel Club in September 1980, and worked tirelessly taking on every job on the committee to ensure that things ran smoothly and to help the club achieve the success it enjoys today.

She was Show Manager for many years, making the annual show a real event.

Jean was also the clubs top trainer taking on the most difficult dogs whilst working patiently with handlers to achieve success. Her dedication and commitment to helping dogs and their owners has been an inspiration to us all. She trained many of the existing members of the committee and we are so grateful to her.

It was a sad day when she announced her retirement at the AGM and we all know that Bretons will never quite be the same. But it’s not goodbye as we hope Jean will visit us from time to time and remain in contact with us. Enjoy your retirement by the sea Jean, and on behalf of all the club members, committee members, judges and competitors that you’ve known over the years...

THANK YOU
