Agility Blessing
Author: P. J. Hughes

May the tunnels not have too much suction
May the course be fun and fast.
May your dog not stop to say hello
to the photographers they pass!

May the table not be too slippery.
May the chute house no scary beasts.
May all the yellow parts be touched
with one little toe, at least.

May the wind be always at your back.
May no bars fall on the ground.
May the A-frame have no stop sign on the top.
May the judge's whistle never sound.

May your dog obey all correct commands
And ignore the ones that are wrong.
May your heart be light, your feet be sure
and the bond with your dog grow strong.

At the finish line, may great joy abound,
regardless of your score.
You have your dog, your dog has you,
and who could ask for more?

Merry Christmas to all of you
And a healthy happy 2008!

From P. J. Hughes...
I just could not resist writing in to say hello! My name is Pam Hughes (P.J. Hughes) and I wrote the little agility blessing that was posted to your site under Christmas Tails! I wrote this blessing for my agility friends based on the antics of my little agility poodle - Remy!  I gave it to all of his agility friends. I was delighted to find this posted on a couple of agility sites that I googled, so I started to search for it and have found it in so many places!  Remy and I are so glad that our little blessing is travelling through cyberspace, hopefully blessing many agility dogs and handlers along the way!

Please check out Remy's little homepage to find out more about my little fella: http://www.dogster.com/dogs/236126

Happy Holidays!
Enjoy the blessing!
I LOVE your website!

Pam &  Remy

Merry Christmas to everyone from Sally Rowe

Bad Dog's Christmas

Move over Sir Cliff! If you would like a festive laugh, have a look at Bamley's Christmas song and video. Click here to hear Bad Dog's Christmas

According to some folks, it is very addictive. Due to popular demand by people who are obviously quite mad, we have even made it available on mp3 format so you can listen to this little ditty anywhere.

When everyone is full of turkey and Christmas cheer, please spare a thought for all the dogs out there needing homes. There are lots of future agility stars here with us just waiting for that chance to shine. Please think about giving them the best Christmas gift of all - a new home and their own family.

Merry Christmas to everyone and all their dogs -

Stray's Prayer
Author Unknown

clip art image of a lost dogDear God,

Please send me somebody who'll care!
I'm tired of running, I'm sick with despair.
My body is aching; it's so racked with pain,
and dear God I pray, as I run in the rain.
That someone will love me and give me a home,
a warm cosy bed and a big juicy bone.

My last owner tied me all day in the yard,
Sometimes with no water, and God that was hard.
So I chewed my leash, and God I ran away.
To rummage in garbage and live as a stray,
But now God, I'm tired and hungry and cold,
and I'm so afraid that I'll never grow old.

They've chased me with sticks and hit me with stones,
while I run the streets just looking for bones!
I'm not really bad, God, please help if you can,
or I have become just a 'Victim of Man!'
I'm wormy dear God and I'm ridden with fleas,
and all that I want is an Owner to please!

If you find one for me God, I'll try to be good,
and I won't chew their shoes, and I'll do as I should.
I'll love them, protect them and try to obey....
when they tell me to sit, to lie down or to stay!
I don't think I'll make it too long on my own,
because I'm getting so weak and I'm so all alone.

Each night as I sleep in the bushes I cry,
because I'm so afraid God, that I'm gonna die.
And I've got so much love and devotion to give,
that I should be given a new chance to live!
So dear God, please answer my prayer,
and send me someone who will REALLY care...

That is, Dear God, if YOU'RE REALLY there!

Do I Go Home Today?
Author Anon

My family brought me home on Christmas Eve, all cradled in their arms.
They cuddled me and smiled at me and said I was full of fun.
They played with me and laughed with me and showered me with toys.
I sure do love my family, especially the girls and boys.

The children loved to feed me; they gave me special treats.
They even let me sleep with them, all snuggled in the sheets.
I used to go for walks, often several times a day.
They even fought to hold the lead, I'm very proud to say.

These are the things I'll not forget - a cherished memory.
I now live in the shelter - without my family.
They used to laugh and praise me when I played with that old shoe.
But I didn't know the difference between the old one and the new.

The kids and I would grab a rag, for hours we would tug
So I thought I did the right thing when I chewed the bedroom rug.
They said that I was out of control and would have to live outside.
This I didn't understand, although I tried and cried.

The walks stopped, one by one; they said they hadn't time.
I wish that I could change things; I wish I knew my crime
My life became so lonely in the backyard, on a chain
I barked and barked all day long to keep from going insane.

So they brought me to the shelter but were embarrassed to say why.
They said i caused an allergy, and then they each kissed me goodbye.
If I'd only had some training as a little pup
I wouldn't have been so hard to handle when I was all grown up.

'You only have one day left,'
I heard the worker say.
Does that mean I have a second chance?
Do I go home today?

A Forgotten Dog's Christmas
Author Unknown

T'was the night before Christmas and all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds
With no thought of the dog filling their head.

And ma in her kerchief, and I in my cap,
Knew he was cold but didn't care about that.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.

Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Figuring he was free of his chain and into the trash.

The moon on the breast of the new fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But Santa Claus - and his eyes full of tears.

He unchained the dog once so lively and quick,
Last years Christmas present, now painfully thin and sick.

More rapid than eagles he called the dogs name.
And the dog ran to him, despite all his pain.

Now Dasher!
Now Dancer!
Now Prancer and Vixen!!
On Comet!
On Cupid!
On Doner and Blitzen!

To the top of the porch! To the top of the wall!
Let's find this dog a home where he's loved by all.

I knew in an instant there would be no gifts this year
For Santa Claus had made one thing quite clear ...

The gift of a dog is not just for a season.
We had gotten the pup for all the wrong reasons.

In our haste to think of the kids a gift,
There was one important thing that we missed.

A dog should be family and cared for the same.
You don't give a gift, then put it on a chain.

And I heard him exclaim as he rode out of sight,
'You weren't given a gift! You were given a life!'
