Summer savings on Frontline,
Drontal and all your dog's other needs
A dog is for life...
Many
of the thousands of dogs end up in rescues centres because of their high energy level. As we
value that energy in our sport, many would make super agility dogs, if only given a chance. If
you are looking for another dog, have a look at the dogs below. Open your heart and give one of
these 'little guys' a good home. Or if you know of someone - a friend, neighbour or work
colleague who is looking for a dog as a pet, do pass on the web site.
We will promise to keep a dog on this page for three months at least. If it has
not rehomed within this time, we'll move it over to the Still
Looking page as space is limited and there are lots of dogs waiting to be rehomed. If a dog
is re-homed, whether through the pages of Agilitynet or other sources, could you please let us
know asap so we can make room for another rescue dog.
If you know of a rescue
dog that would make a good agility or flyball prospect, preferably two years old or under,
download this template, answer all the questions about the
dog's history etc. and return with a photo of the dog by email. That way, you won't get time
wasters and we can post the dog a whole lot faster).
We'll try to let you know what's happened to these dogs on the
Happy Endings page.

JACK
History:
This is Jack. He was loved very much by his previous owners, but they were OAPs and just
could not manage him, so they have asked us to get him a wonderful home.
Description:
Jack is a lovely tri colour lad, with a wonderful nature. He would be really good in any
working environment as he loves his tuggy, has good motivation and has also good nose work.
He is very driven when playing and this would be very good for training. He is a real nice
lad with a lot of growing up to do. Jack is going to have a lovely long coat and has really
nice kind eyes. He has no hang ups. He is excellent with other dogs, people etc. travels
well in van and is happy in a crate.

Jess was brought in to Battersea as her owners could not cope with her anymore.
Description:
Jess is a medium-size mongrel. She is a very active, bright and loves nothing more than
being out and about and play with her tennis ball. Jess is a
fantastic and fun dog.
Rehoming
criteria: We are looking for
experienced owners who will do some fun sport with her and keep her stimulated and

TOBY
History:
Toby came to the centre due to his owners not having enough time for him. He has had an
unsettled life so far and now needs a loving permanent new home.
Description:
Toby is an incredibly bright and active young Border Collie. He now needs a new home where
he can settle in and become the fantastic companion we believe he can be. Toby is a typical
Collie. He lives life at 100 miles an hour. Toby needs both
mental and physical stimulation to keep him happy. He is a joy to watch when he has
something to keep him busy. He would love an agility or flyball
home and we feel he would excel at a doggy sport. He loves his tennis balls and would love
to become a flyball star! Toby is very good with most other
dogs, but can be a bossy boots. He could live with an older sensible dog, but would be too
much for a younger impressionable dog. Toby is very affectionate and loves to learn,
and in the right home will be a lovely happy dog.

BREEZE
History:
No prior history is available for Breeze as she was rescued from a pound. However, she was
in good health and shows no indication of neglect or abuse so we suspect she just became
too much of a handful for her ex-owner.
Description: A
black Collie X, Breeze is active, affectionate very quick to learn and eager to please.
Although Breeze can be excitable, she is responding well to basic training and is becoming
much calmer and less distracted in a variety of situations.
She is currently 16 -17 inches at

JERRY-LEE & BENSON
(The dogs formerly known as Lancelot and Merlin)
History: These
puppies have been rescued from their previous owner whose idea of training was to thrash
them with a belt. They are currently being looked after in very expensive kennels which
were chosen because the dogs have a big run of their own so they are not locked up all day.
The fosterers are also paying for extra walks outside the kennels and for staff to play
with them with toys. They have been renamed. Jerry-Lee is the red one and Benson the black
one.
Description: The
dogs are very beautiful, friendly and affectionate. Both have very nice temperaments. The
staff have trained them to sit, stay, down and they are very calm. They are willing to
please and show a keen interest in agility. They would make very good Agility/Flyball
candidates as they have no undesirable traits at the moment and are very eager to learn.
Rehoming criteria: They
need to go to separate homes as any sensible person should know having two dogs from the
same litter usually ends in disaster. They need a home where they will be given lots of
love and exercise. Training them in Agility or Flyball would be a great way of keeping
their minds occupied.
Child friendly: Because
of their age obviously they are very bouncy and playful, people with small children should
have previous experience with dogs and not allow children to tease them.

DARLING DAISY
History:
Daisy was a stray, collected by dog warden and has done her seven days.
When these
dogs are strays they only have seven days to find a rescue space, if no space is found
sadly they are PTS. When I looked at Daisy her eyes just melted me, so I took the chance in
saving her and she came home with me,
Description:
If you think that Britain
has talent, well this lurcher is the biggest talent ever.
Daisy is a
beautiful dark brindle lurcher with a nature to die for. She
has not put a foot wrong since she has been here. She has some war wounds of her previous
life, split ears, rope burns around front legs, but she is lovely. Daisy is faster than a
collie. She is lovely with other dogs, gorgeous with children and who knows what she would
be like in agility. She has been up my A-frame into the tube tunnel and over a couple of
fences. She likes her balls to play with and, in a few months when she is back in tip top
condition, she is going to look like a princess. I took the chance - surely someone else
now will give her the forever home she deserves.

CAPTAIN JACK SPARROW
History:
Sparrow has been at the Dogs Trust for six months undergoing a retraining
programme. He is now more than ready for a new home.
Description:
Sparrow is a black and white wire-coated Parson Russell. He is
a bright and active little man who loves to do! He loves the
company of other dogs and is very tolerant in play. He is ball crazy and would definitely
suit a flyball home. Sparrow picks things up very quickly and
is keen to please. During his time here he has been learning some basics in obedience and
agility and although still has much more to learn is now ready for his new home.
Rehoming
criteria:
Sparrow needs a very experienced home due to his keen and active temperament new owners
need to have experience of the breed and want to do something with him. This is not a pet

BEN
History:
We have come to the sad decision to re-home Ben as we are not able to give him what he
needs. He can be very territorial, which is causing problems with the
neighbour’s dogs and our cat has had little peace since we had him. After two and
half years, we admit that they are not ever going to be compatible in the same house.
Description:
White with tan and black markings. Very attractive with a cheeky glint in his eye. He is
very intelligent, lovable and affectionate. He loves agility, especially being on the dog
walk and A-frame. I am sure he likes the extra height.
Rehoming

needs an experienced owner who has more determination than we do. I think he would be
better with a bitch rather than a dog as he is quite dominant.

BENSON
History:
Benson lost his home after being tormented by a toddler.
Description: He is a young terrier who has
the same stature and terrier ways as a Patterdale but we guess
he has Staffie heritage due to his brindle coat. He certainly
has the loving nature common to both. Benson is housetrained and has basic commands. Benson
is quick to learn, food orientated and good to handle. He is inclined to jump and will grab
sleeves, but if told not to in a forthright manner he stops immediately. If
I was looking for a medium height non-collie agility dog I would seriously consider him, he
shows focus, enthusiasm and is desperate for some 1-1 interaction, therefore he is very
trainable and is quick to learn.
Rehoming
criteria: he
would cope well in a terrier experienced home who can give him his confidence back and
offer him experience in melding in the 'big outdoors'. He is fun to walk and his dog
skills are fine, just a little clumsy as with so many terriers of his age. Benson is a
sweetheart...whose home must just around the corner. His assessor has said, 'He does
initially have high energy levels, but I find him an absolute delight.'
Child friendly: Benson
did cope well in a busy young family, but perhaps better to live
with older children.

WHIZZ
History:
Whizz was picked up as a
stray last year, she arrived very thin and had obviously been feeding pups. She had a brief
stay in a private home before coming into GRWE's care early
this year.
Description:
Whizz is full of energy and life and does everything at 100 mph! She has
a lot of collie in her make up and we think she is about 18
months - 2 yrs old. She has had no training or direction in her life - until now…. She is
in our fantastic training placement. She gets plenty of free running plus daily training,
lead walks and socialising with many different dogs of all
breeds. She still has a lot to learn but has lots of potential.

DAN
History:
Dan is in rescue as his owner was working long shifts and couldn't give him the time and
commitment he needs. Dan was briefly rehomed but returned after
reportedly lunging at somebody during a training class and nipping.
Description:
Dan is very small and slightly built for a collie. He is very lively and active. Dan can
jump very high and is a typical worky collie, absolutely
bursting with energy and very intelligent. Dan is great with other dogs, walks well
on a lead and understands basic commands. Dan is slightly nervous but does not appear to be
an aggressive dog, despite the reported nipping incident in his last home. Dan is not
interested in balls so would not be suitable for flyball.
Rehoming

PANSY
History:
Pansy came into Dogs Trust Shoreham as a handover back in July 2008 due to the family
having a change in circumstances.
Description:
Pansy loves going for long walks but she does have a strong herding instinct and needs to
be kept on lead in areas where she might come into contact with livestock. She is a very
affectionate girl who loves nothing better than to sprawl herself across your lap and have
a cuddle. This pretty girl is great fun to be around and would make someone a lovely
companion.
Rehoming
criteria:
Pansy
gets upset when left alone so we are looking for owners who wouldn’t have to leave her on

AMBER
History:
Amber has really been a victim of her beautiful looks. She has been in two homes already,
neither of which met her needs in any way. She received little in the way of exercise,
training or socialisation. Amber has spent much of the last 8
months being kept in a cage with a muzzle on because she became so anxious and over
protective and found it difficult to deal with visitors, the small children in the family
and their cats. The owner’s poor health and lack of experience made it impossible for her
to address these issues and Amber faced being put to sleep if she had not been accepted
into the Rescue Centre.
Description: Red
tri-colour WSD. Despite enduring some of the most inappropriate
treatment for any dog, Amber is proving herself to be capable of being able to trust again
and to learn new ways of behaving. She has very good obedience skills and has been
introduced to basic agility activities with great success. She is
socialising well with other dogs and is learning to play.
Rehoming
criteria: Gradually her confidence around unfamiliar people is developing
but her new owner would need to understand her rehabilitation may be a very drawn out
process and 100% success may never be possible. Amber could only be homed to someone with
significant experience of such dogs who can offer the structure, patience and environment
to continue the progress already achieved.

LUCKY
History:
Lucky was a pet, and belonged to a guy who worked in the Parks
Department. Sadly, he lost his job and his home, so had to find a new one for Lucky.
Description:
The amazing thing
about Lucky is that he is very well-trained and can do lots of tricks: roll-over, paw,
crawling – and is mad about toys. He’s extremely fast, and intelligent and must go to a
working home. If you want a dog that’s guaranteed to be up for agility, look no
further. And
he’s got no
hang-ups at all. Lucky is black and white and very handsome. See
Lucky’s

SOCKS
History:
Socks came originally from Ireland with no history. He has received some training as a
sniffer dog but didn't quite make the grade so came back to us
for rehoming.
Description:
A pretty, lightly built, short coated black and white collie, Socks
is very
bright and quick.
He
likes treats and will work for them but his favourite are toys which he is very motivated
by them, so they make good training aids. He's picked up 'sit', 'down', 'bed' and 'find'
while with us and he's currently working on 'paw'. He has missed out on early socialisation
so sometimes spooks at unknown things but he's young and learns quickly so this should be
quick to overcome.
Rehoming
criteria:
He would be happier in a working type home so the challenge of agility would definitely
suit him.
Adopters can be anywhere in the country provided they are happy to travel. All members of

CINDY
History:
Cindy was owned by same
owner from a very tiny puppy
as her mother had been run over.
She is needing a new home
now due to marriage split up.
Description:
Cindy is a black and white collie. She lived with
a family but is at present scared of strangers. She panic barks and goes off and hides when
people visit the house. However, outside she will play ball whilst they stand nearby and is
starting to trust people. She is fine with other dogs and is ball and toy driven and
would retrieve all day long if you let her. She is eager to please and food orientated. I
gained her trust within a day and she now follows me everywhere. She loves to go out in the
car and runs happily with my lot in open spaces. She gets a bit stressed if left alone and
at present barks.
She’s a very quick learner and
loves to please. She ran through a pipe tunnel to get her ball and over a low jump.
Although nervous of strangers she’s not worried about general noise such as bangs etc.
Rehoming
criteria: She needs someone experienced
with collies with the time and patience to win her trust. I can’t keep her as I have eight
dogs already so she needs an experienced home asap - before I
get too attached! Being a working collie, she needs somewhere
where she’ll get lots of exercise and mental stimulation.
Child friendly:
Yes, once she gains confidence.
She was very content around and
would play with a small child who she knew.
Able to live with cats: Not sure,
although has seen a cat and didn't chase.

But if
you're looking to adopt a rescue dog, don't forget to use the same care as you would when
buying a puppy. A reputable rescue centre will always tell you as much as they know about
the dog and its background, and just as importantly ask you questions to ensure the dog
will fit in with your lifestyle and preferences. If the centre doesn't find out about you
(and probably insist on a home visit), consider why not. Ask lots of questions and think
about their answers. Giving a needy dog a new home is a terrific thing to do, but don't let
it be a 'boomerang dog' that has to return to the rescue centre after a short time because
there wasn't enough effort put in to making sure you and the dog would suit each other. |
If you are thinking of getting a rescued
dog,
you will be interested in the book Living with a Rescued Dog by Julie Barnes.
