Lucky dogs
The story
doesn't always end with the hero/heroine riding off into the sunset but these dogs have been
given another chance. We don't always know where they go, but when we do hear anything, we will
try to pass on the news. This month 29 dogs and three puppies found new homes, many of them
going to agility homes so watch out them on the show circuit.
Dogs are featured in alphabetical
order.

Alfie is still waiting, and
getting rather desperate, poor chap. He is very upset by a noisy bull terrier and
is destroying his bedding as a consequence.

ALFIE
History:
Alfie came from owners who had to get rid of one of their dogs because of over-crowding
and has been with us since April. He spent a short time on a cattle farm and was
excellent at herding so he would be a wonderful working dog.
Description:
Alfie is a short-coated black and
white collie type who may be a first cross, but he is
collie-sized. Apparently has has done some agility in the past as well as cattle herding.
He loves to work and
is always waiting
for instructions.
He is wary of men
and does not present well, but is very good with our kennel manager and the lady vet.
He loves
other dogs and
shares a kennel
happily with a bitch. He is good in cars and travels well and quietly.

ALLY
History:
Ally was brought from a local farm as a family pet. She is a loving, attentive dog with
too much energy and bounce for a young family to give her the physical as well as mental
stimulation that she so desperately needs.
Description:
Ally is a very attractive, responsive young lady who thrives on attention. She
especially loves retrieving items and has a good physical physique.
Rehoming
criteria: She
would enjoy and really needs an active home that has time and energy and experience with
her breed. She is desperate for something to do, an agility home would be ideal.

Ending: Bailey has gone to live in a

homechecked family. They have undertaken to find the right family for him once his

present, so he isn't looking for his permanent home at present.
(29/01/2008) |
BAILEY
History:
Bailey came
into rescue via vets as his owners were requesting he be put to sleep for aggression.
Description: Bailey is a very attractive Cocker Spaniel. We've only seen a
friendly little dog but
recognise he needs
training and direction in his life. He is a cute, active and very clever little pup, with
huge ears!
Rehoming criteria: He will need somebody
with experience who is strong enough to ensure he understands his pack position.
His aggression only shows itself when he's allowed to think he's the boss! He's very
lively and intelligent and is desperately needs something to channel all his energy into.
We think agility may be the answer to his prayers.

Happy Ending: Ben has gone to a family home.
(20/01/08) |
BEN
History:
On Monday, 19 November 2007, Ben was brought into the vet to be PTS, as he had nipped the
owners 10 year old son. In Ben's
defence,
he has not been very well trained - he knows the basics - and children running around was
perhaps just too much excitement for him. Lack of exercise may have been another factor
in the nipping story.
Description:
Ben is long-haired, Border Collie with traditional markings and about 2 1/2 years old. He
is very friendly, affectionate and loves
catching and chasing a ball. I would
think he would make a great flyball or agility dog. He seems
to get on well with other dogs. He's
not a barker and does not mind be left on his own.
He
has neither nipped or mouthed since I have been looking after him. Ben can be a little
wary of men. Initially he is a bit unsure and frightened but will come round okay.
Rehoming
criteria: His new
home needs to be kind, caring and understanding. Someone who will give him attention and
exercise, and be willing to put time into training him. He's not for a first time dog
owner and would be unfair to rehome him with young children.
Child friendly: Preferably not a home with
children

BENJI
History:
Benji was rescued from a Welsh pound where, we understand, he
was taken after his owner died.
Description:
Benji is
everything you would want of a Collie. He is sociable with people and other dogs and
shows promise around livestock. He loves to play but has the intelligence and athleticism
to be an agility dog.
Rehoming
criteria: A very responsive dog who is eager to please, so someone who

Happy Ending:
Benson has a very high chase instinct - especially with traffic - and a very short
attention span which made it difficult for even an experienced handler to keep him
focussed. He has been rehomed to a small holding in the countryside where he will have
fewer distractions and lots of space to mature into a loyal friend to his new owners.
(29/01/2008) |
BENSON
History:
Benson was brought back from Wales after he had proved too demanding as a family pet in a
home with young children.
Description:
Benson is a very handsome
black and white collie boy with real star quality. He is a sociable dog although until
recently he has relatively few opportunities to be around other dogs.
Rehoming
criteria: He is a very high energy dog
and, as a result of his home experiences, can be quite excitable and initially a little
distracted. He is responding well to the security and routine of the Rescue Centre but
will require an experienced and committed owner to fulfil the massive potential he can
offer.

(17/01/08) |
BLAKE
History:
Blake came from a family with three children. They didn’t have time to walk him and, as a
result, couldn’t cope with his energy and enthusiasm.
Description:
He is a blue merle tri and very handsome. He is leggy and slim and has a good build for
agility. He has a sweet nature, is very affectionate and loves to be with you. He loves
toys and is very keen to please. He is learning the basics and has learnt come and sit in
the last few days. I have done a few bits of agility with him and he is really enjoying
it. He gets on with all my dogs and the chickens. He sleeps in the kitchen at night with
a few of my dogs and is quiet, clean and settled.
Rehoming criteria: Blake
needs someone who is prepared to put the time and effort in to teach him the basics,
which he is picking up quickly and is eager to please. He needs a hobby to provide him
with the mental stimulation he needs.

BLUE
History:
Irish poundie, so no
history.
Description:
Blue is a stunning black collie/retriever x with all the bright responsiveness of
a collie, while being as sweet and gentle as the very best retriever.
He is naturally a little
submissive but is otherwise a happy, well-socialised young soul.
He is playful but very loving
and chilled out in the house. He gets on extremely well with other dogs. He really does
have a stunning temperament and is one of the nicest boys we have ever met.
Rehoming criteria: We’re looking for a
happy, positive, active home for Blue because he is swift and nimble (he’s very fast...!)
but steady, smart, obedient and extremely keen to learn. This boy wants to be more than
just a much-loved pet (although that too of course!) He would love the company of another
dog but would be fine as an only dog as long as there is enough for him to keep him
occupied.

History:
Bugsy was kept locked in a bed-sit from a puppy and then in kennels for two months. Over
the last two weeks living in a house and having regular walks, he has come on really
well. He has calmed down and has become an obedient little dog.
Description:
Bugsy is a handsome Blue Merle collie X, with a very endearing character. He loves to
please and loves people and other dogs.
Rehoming
criteria:
Bugsy
will

friendly, clever and keen to

coming along quickly in his foster home where he is happily living with 4 other agility

Dodger has gone to a new home.
(05/01/2008) |
DODGER
History:
Dodger came into our rescue kennels when his owners could no longer cope with him.
Description:
Dodger is a very handsome tri-coloured male collie. He is very active, bright and keen to
please, and really enjoys learning new tricks. He would be
better suited to an active, experienced home rather than a pet home. He has had a bad
start in life and has been under socialised, as a result he is nervous in new situations
and when meeting new people, especially men. If he is pushed too far with a new man, he
will snap and growl, but if allowed to avoid the situation he will keep his distance and
approach when he feels ready. Out and about he will look to his handler for reassurance.
Once he knows and trusts you, he is a wonderful, loving, playful puppy. He is toy and
food motivated and picks up new things very quickly, he would love to have a go at
agility or flyball to help build his confidence and have a
task in life.
Rehoming
criteria:
Dodger will need
experienced owners who are able to put in the time to help build his confidence and
socialise him in all situations. He will need a home where he will get the exercise and
mental stimulation that he needs to keep him happy.

History:
Fly came to us as she will not work sheep, she does not show any eye at all! We
rehomed Fly's younger brother a
short while ago who is as lovely as she is. Fly has never lived in a house but has been
clean since we have had her.
Description:
Fly is a semi short coated tri female, who is very lovable,
she is a little timid but loves a cuddle. She is quiet, has an excellent re-call and has
been great around children, cats, kittens and ducks! She shows no signs of aggression
around other dogs and lives quite happily with our seven!
Rehoming
criteria: Fly
would benefit from a quieter household, with someone who would continue with her

FUDGE
History:
Fudge came into Dogs Trust through not fault of her own. It was due to the
personal circumstances of her owner. She has now gone to Valgrays BC Rescue.
Description:
Fudge
is a smooth coated, prick eared, red tri girl who is very intelligent. She mixes
well with all types, shapes and sizes of dogs. She is very good with people now and much
more sure of her place i life. Fudges is a very affectionate girl who loves to give
everyone kisses - humans and dogs alike. Fudge is fast, agile and bright. She would be
brill for agility and would relish the mental stimulation that it would provide.
She would be well suited to an agility home. She is an ideal build for agility -
fast and agile - and would relish the mental stimulation.
Rehoming
criteria: Fudge will
need work putting in with her as she has had nothing done with her before coming to Dogs
Trust. She would need work at something

GRAINNE
History:
Grainne was a stray who was
found in December 2006. On the 07 December 2006 I was coming out of the Square
Shopping Centre in Tallaght and sitting at my car door was this very sad looking dog. She
had no identification. I took her home with me. I placed adverts in local newspapers and
city newspapers, contacted local vets and organised a poster campaign. No one contacted
me. I decided to keep the dog and named her Grainne. Unfortunately
Grainne and my little old dog Sanna
who is 11 years do not get on so I have decided it would be best to find
Grainne a good home, even though it is a heart breaking
decision.
Description:
She is about 12 inches tall. She is
highly intelligent with a
great personality. Would
you believe, she even smiles at you.
Grainne loves people. She
is totally house trained. In all the years that I have been involved with animals, I have

GYPSY
History:
My ex girlfriend and I rescued Gypsy from Windyways Kennels
in Macclesfield in July 07. Previous to that she was born on
a farm in Wales. She then went to live with an old Lady in London who couldn't cope with
her. The lady's son who was from the Manchester area rehomed
her in Manchester but didn't know the address of her new owners and she was found running
wild in Tatton Park where she was placed at
Windyways.
Description:
She is a gorgeous tri-coloured collie, an active dog who at
the moment she gets 1.5-3 hours walking per day (morning and night) and is into
everything and great fun. She is fully house trained, knows the commands; sit, stay, paw,
wait (when she gets to a road), find it (sticks and toys), stay with me (for heel), can't
reach it (she will bring things closer) amongst many others. She has been to 3 agility
classes and seems to thoroughly enjoy it and the added bonus is she is always tired when
she gets home which means peace and quiet for me! On the second class she completed a
full circuit off the lead even dealing with her least favourite
- the see saw. One thing must be noted with Gypsy - she is terrified of fireworks and
will bolt if one goes off while she is out.

History:
Herbie was bred
in a family situation in November 2005, one of 5 pups. His sister is a show dog. His dad
won Crufts a few years ago. He was homed with a family including a young boy and was
treated like a child himself. He was returned to the breeder and when she got him back he
was a little stressed when left alone and use to being cleaned every time he came in the
house. None of these are a problem now. He is a great dog who has only one vice -
deafness when chasing rabbits.
Description:
He is a perfect
example of a Parsons Russell, very good looking standing very well. He moves like a show
dog - on his toes. He is very intelligent and wants to work. But he can not go off lead
