Lucky dogs

The story doesn't always end with the hero/heroine riding off into the sunset but these dogs have been given another chance. We don't always know where they go, but when we do hear anything, we will try to pass on the news. This month 22 dogs found new homes, many of them going to agility homes so watch out them on the show circuit.

Dogs are featured in alphabetical order.

Happy Ending: Banjo has been homed. Many thanks. Loads of calls via Agilitynet. Have managed to home three others from enquiries off the site. Val  (02/04/08)

BANJO

History: Banjo was farm bred and purchased by the owner's sister but she is now unable to keep him for personal reasons.
Description: Banjo is a lovely friendly outgoing, sweet natured puppy. He is black and white with a spot on top. He will be smooth coated? This little chap plays with his toys, loves other dogs is excellent with children and cats and sleeps in a puppy cage.
Rehoming criteria: Banjo would now love a forever home, playing and doing something, as he a real on the go little boy. He is a little winner for someone to do agility/ob/flyball as he has the right attitude.

Happy Ending: Boomer has been rehomed to an agility home.  (30/04/08)

BOOMER

History: Boomer was returned to his breeder through no fault of his own, he has been out on trial at a home, where he behaved like an angel, but sadly due to the older male in the house not taking to him he is looking again.
Description: Boomer is a dual registered Border Collie who has a gentle sweet loving nature, with loads of get up and go and very cheeky. He will need basic obedience & recall training which he lacked in his first home, but is very biddable, and picks things up quickly. A busy boy, he likes toys, and treats, is good with people and children. He is very good in the car and happy in a crate overnight, he is not destructive and is house trained. The only small issue is that he can be possessive over his dinner, and due to this he is being fed separate from other dogs, but away from the food bowl he gets on really well with all the dogs he meets, even the old male who hated him.
Rehoming criteria: Due to his lack of training as a puppy Boomer will need an experienced collie home,  and an owner who is willing to get down to basics asap as he is desperate to learn. Boomer needs a working pet home, agility (very fast across the ground) or obedience (lovely movement) would be just what this young pup needs.

DAISY, DYLAN & DUSTIN

Description

Happy Ending: Duncan now has a new home with a lovely lady from our local village, who is a dog trainer - just what he needed. (11/04/08)

DUNCAN

History: Duncan was originally picked up as a stray, so not much previous history is known. He has been fostered by us for one month now to sort out a couple of problems and is responding well to training.
Description:
Duncan is a GSD X with probably a collie as he is collie in shape and size, but with more of the Shepherd looks. He is very good natured with people and other dogs, but very, very active. He will chase things that move, which can include bikes etc, but this is getting better, and we have discovered his love of the tennis ball, which helps greatly with his training.
Rehoming criteria: He will need a home where he would receive further training as he is not for the fainthearted. Although this dog will be a challenge, he shows signs of being a very, very loyal dog once bonded. He would make a great flyball dog, as he is fast and loves a toy/ball. When in a car Duncan is the most well behaved dog going!
Child friendly: Yes, but probably better with slightly older children as he is very bouncy.
Able to live with cats: Yes, but he will chase if they run. If he does catch up with them, he does not bite, just looks bemused.

FALKIE

History: Falkie arrived at Battersea as a stray in March 2008
Description: Falkie is a cute, sociable, affectionate dog who enjoys the company of other dogs. She should not be mollycoddled due to her looks as she has a very cheeky side, too!
Rehoming criteria: We are looking for experienced owners that will provide a steady routine and ground rules from day one. Falkie would enjoy agility as she is keen to please her handler and focuses well for treats and a toy. Falkie can live with cats, other dogs and children over ten years of age. A great little dog that will surely be snapped up!

Description: Jay is more a collie type than Spaniel. She is a slim dog that has a lot of energy. She is a shy girl who is very willing to please and is getting more confident each day. She will make a lovely agility dog with a bit of time and love. She never stops running. She comes when she is called.

Happy Ending: Josie has been re-homed.  (04/04/08)

JOSIE

History: Josie came to us as an unclaimed stray. She was in a poor condition when she came to us, not long having had puppies, but has improved significantly in her time here.
Description: Josie is a beautiful tri-coloured collie cross with big ears! She is a lovely, affectionate girl with everyone who meet her. Josie is playful and friendly, loves to be cuddled, likes to play with her toys and enjoys her walks. She's a firm favourite with staff and volunteers.
Rehoming criteria:
Josie could live happily in a family where the children are aged 8+, she could also potentially live with other dogs. An active family home where her enthusiasm to please can be put to good use would be her ideal home. She has a good obedience level and is housetrained.

LIBBY

History: Libby was purchased as a puppy and has been much loved by the family. Unfortunately due to bad health of the owners, Libby needs to find another home where she can be loved as much as the home she has had.
Description:Medium coated, Black and White, with all the white being merlie and mottled and spottie.  She has one blue eye and the other brown. She has the most wonderful nature and is 100% with other dogs, children, people.  She is a very agile collie and could excel in agility, flyball, etc. She is a total poppet. Libby just needs a bit more ground work on her obedience, she travels well in cars and she is not a chaser of livestock/cars.

Happy Ending: Lilli from Hope has now found her new home.  (02/04/08)

LILLI

History: Lilli has been in foster care since she was rescued from the pound along with her siblings at 6 weeks old.
Description: Lilli is a very small. She is lively and inquisitive and is more intelligent than she lets on ! She responds well to clicker training. She has excellent recall and never runs too far away. She bonds very quickly with her 'main' carer and likes to stay close. Her stamina and energy when out are seemingly endless, but she will be calmer in the house and loves to cuddle. Lilli gives kisses on command, too. Lilli has largely overcome fear aggression when out meeting dogs and is mainly due now to other dogs showing aggression towards her, calmer dogs who come up will get played with and chased and bounced on. Lilli would be excellent at agility. She responds well to positive but firm training and she has the energy, the speed and capacity for jumping.
Rehoming criteria: Lilli cannot be re-homed with another female - although she is fine outside with them. She needs an active home where she can expend her energy in a controlled way. All potential adopters have to fill in a pre-home adoption form and will need to be home-checked.

Happy Ending: Maisy's new home is with Sue Smith where she will be trained for agility! Sue was actually involved in the breeding of these pups and from day one liked the look of Maisey but at the time she did not really want a bitch and decided eventually not to take one of the pups. We like to say it's fate the way it has ended up-after all everything happens for a reason! Maisy is now called Dream and people can expect to see her competing on the circuit when she reaches 18 months and her training is of a good enough standard!  (20/04/08)

MAISEY (Now called DREAM)

History: White faced Maisy (white faced) is a beautiful, long haired WSD. She is currently being fostered by a friend of the previous owners as she was having some aggression issues with very young children, although in general she is a very friendly, happy young dog. Her litter sister Mitzy is also up for re-homing.
Description: Maisy is a typical young collie requiring lots of exercise and attention. She has  lots of toy drive for retrieving. Maisy is a keen jumper with good style and is regularly found popping over the stair gate etc! Dad is a Grade 4 agility dog and mum a farm collie. Her two brothers are training for agility and currently doing very well.

Happy Ending: Mitsy has been rehomed. She has gone to a lady called Nina who does a bit of obedience and agility. Her name has been changed to Fly and she is settling in well with her new family. She will be starting agility training in the next few weeks.  (28/04/08)

MITSY (Now called FLY)

History: Mitsy (classic face) and Maisy (white faced) are both beautiful long haired WSDs. They are currently being fostered by a friend of the previous owners as Maisy was having some aggression issues with very young children, although in general they are both very friendly, happy young dogs.
Description: Mitsy is a very quiet girl in the house enjoying cuddles on the sofa. She is crate trained and does like to go to her crate for quiet time. A very energetic girl out of the house, she loves to run with my three dogs which includes her dad and her brother! She loves to play ball. She is taking her time to settle in properly, keeping herself out of the way a lot> She is quite sensitive and leaves the room if you tell any of the other dogs no or stop it. At the moment, she seems to like men better than women, but we are working on building her trust a bit more!
Rehoming criteria: Ideally Mitsy and Maisy would like to stay together. If this is not possible separate homes will be considered, I am confident they would make great agility dogs

Happy Ending: Mollie as she has now found her 4ever home.  (02/04/08)

MOLLY

History: Molly has lived with her family since she was eight weeks old and it was hoped she would remain there. However, both boys are autistic and the many therapists, support workers, teaching assistants and other health care professionals coming and going every day has been traumatic for Molly. Her owners have been devoted and she has attended KCGCDS classes and agility to keep her active and improve the bond she has with her family, but she is becoming increasingly stressed by the volume of strangers and the fact that during these times she is unable to gain direction from her owners as to  how to react. It has been a difficult decision for them to rehome Molly, but it seems to be the way forward as she needs to have a consistent leader from whom to take instruction rather than try to adapt to and receive instruction from a stream of ever changing strangers.
Description: Pretty, fine-boned collie, has good grasp of basic obedience and enjoys agility (her owner is the one who takes time to learn the new skills) She is good with other dogs and with the right handler is very quick to pick up what's required of her in all disciplines. For those agility homes, she measures just under 22 inches to the shoulder.
Rehoming criteria: An active home to continue her agility training

Happy ending: Skollie has been rehomed.  (28/04/08)

SKOLLIE

History:  Skollie was purchased as a puppy and has been much loved by the family, but due to work commitments the family have decided to rehome him as they do not feel it is fair to keep him, as he requires, like any typical collie a busy life style, which is just not getting with them.
Description: Skollie is a beautiful tri colour merle. He has no hangups whatsoever, he loves everyone and anything. He loves his ball and with his total on the go attitude he would make a super agility/flyball prospect.
Rehoming criteria: A working home would be just great for this collie with a loving busy family to give him lots to do.

Happy ending: Smiley Baby's fosterers couldn't bear to part with her and decided they would like to keep her as a companion for their other dog. (28/04/08)

SMILEY BABY

History: Smiley Baby is a stunning looking Beardie Collie who is in rescue through no fault of her own. She is being fostered in Enfield, Middx.
Description: She is called Smiley as she looks at you and smiles as her picture shows. Smiley Baby is a loving little girl (well not so little). She is fully housetrained but is not brilliant on her lead as she walks all over the show. Some efforts to address this minor problem will be required from her new family.
Rehoming criteria: Although she did not receive any real training in her previous home, she is clever and willing to please so should catch up and excel with a bit of time and input. Smiley Baby is looking for an active and dynamic family who enjoy long walks. She is very good with other dogs but hates cats. For home checking purposes we would prefer that potential adopters live not too far from London or the Home Counties.
Child friendly: Yes, older children.
Able to live with cats: No
Age: 2 years.

Happy Ending: Snowy the Jack Russell has now been rehomed. She has gone to an agility home. (30/04/08)

SNOWY

History: Snowy needs a new home as she is being used as a chew toy by a larger dog. She is used to children and has been brought up with other dogs. It is just a personality clash with the big one.
Description: Snowy is a very pretty and unusually long haired Jack Russell. Both her parents were typical JRTs. She is very lively and active and easily trained. She does tend to latch on to one person and is devoted to them. Can be a bit wary with strangers until she settles but then very friendly. Always on the go and has a why walk anywhere when you can run attitude.
Rehoming criteria: She needs a loving home and doesn't have to be the only dog as she plays well with other dogs - just not a big American Bulldog
.

Description: Kelpie - but has just got the tan colouring.  Tanner is good with other dogs.
